Gravely Grant Awarded to Local STEM Teacher

The Gravely STEM Teaching Grant of $1,500 was presented by Lt. Col. Richard Sharpe, USAF (Ret.), chapter vice president, to Danielle Last from Alice Drive Elementary School, Sumter, South Carolina. Last was selected to receive the grant from among many STEM teachers in the Sumter area due to her dedication, long hours and personal funding for many programs at the elementary school. She started a robotics program and provided hands-on teaching for math and science in the classroom settings. She has shown enthusiasm for STEM education above and beyond the average educator. Also present at the awarding of the grant was Lt. Eboni Jackson, USAF, chapter treasurer; Jim Crawford, director of membership; Chip Powell; and Kelly Powell, director of publicity. The grant was named in honor of AFCEA Educational Foundation's first executive director, Vice Adm. Samuel L. Gravely, USN (Ret.).
