High School Students Participate in 2nd Annual SkillsUSA Competition

In partnership with the Department of Defense Education Activity community and SkillsUSA, the chapter hosted its 2nd Annual SkillsUSA competition in March. Over 120 high school students from the greater Kaiserslautern area signed up to compete in 10 career technical education (CTE) events: engineering technology, information technology services, television video production, TeamWorks, nurse assisting, computer programming, 3D animation, computer applications, advertising design and video game design. The day kicked off with Kaiserslautern High School color guard posting the colors and singing the national anthem. From there, a group photo was taken in front of the Berlin Wall Memorial, kicking off the competition. The students then had four to five hours to work on their individual contests before the judging began. During the judging phase, the Ramstein JROTC Armed Exhibition Team performed their European championship routine for the crowd. Afterwards, the TeamWorks competition, led by the members of the Bloodhound Project, put on a rocket car demonstration. Shortly thereafter, the students met for one final competition before the winners were announced. This competition was comprised of teams of two to four students with the goal of answering correctly the most exam questions from each individual competition. After an event-filled day, the students were ready for the announcement of the winners and a chance at some awesome prizes provided by chapter sponsors.
