Chapter Presents Student Research at Meeting

The chapter organized the fourth annual student clubs meeting in May at the University of Beira Interior (UBI), in Covilha, Portugal, to share research and development activities and opportunities with representatives from government, industry and academia. The conference, opened by Antonio Fidalgo, university rector, was focused on Cybersecurity Aeronautics, Space and Defense. Rear Adm. Carlos Rodolfo, PRT NA (Ret.), regional vice president, Atlantic Region, and chairman, Portugal Chapter, presented Jorge Reis Silva, UBI professor and club faculty advisor, who represented the chapter along with students Tiago Sanches, chapter president; Alexandre Nunes, second vice president; and Pedro Carneiro, secretary. Students presented the following working projects in the fields of aeronautics, electromechanical engineering and computer science: Optimal Robust Trajectory Control of Atmospheric Flights; 4D Commercial Trajectory Optimization for Fuel Saving and Environmental Impact Reduction; Opposed Piston Geared Hypocycloid Engine; Thrust-Based Passive Variable Pitch Propeller Rotor; Firefighting Aircraft Operations Optimization; Development of an Unmanned Aerial Vehicles Cooperative System for Forest Fires Detection and Monitoring; SECURIoTESIGN-Embedding Security by Design on the IoT; and Flight Simulation-Based Training and Virtual Cockpit Development-The URBLOG Case.
