Conference Presenters Address the Hybrid Landscape for Network Security |
In June, the chapter organized the conference Hybrid Landscape: Strategies and Systems for the Defense and Security of Networks, with the objective of analyzing cyberspace and discussing the security of communications networks. Lt. Gen. A. Tangorra, ITAF (Ret.), chapter president, introduced the conference, which takes place every year during the Army Transmission Celebration, and presented Vincenzo Vitiello, chapter treasurer, with the Meritorious Service Award. Then, Brig. Gen. L. Carpineto, Comando Trasmissioni E.I., welcomed all attendees and discussed the opportunity to visit an exhibition of the latest communication systems used by the army after the conference. Luca Salamone, Segredifesa V Reparto, presented The Cyberspace Between Laws and Technological Innovation: The National Architecture of Strategic Relevance for Cyber Technologies with Reference to the National Plan for Military Research. Col. Luciano Antoci, Army General Staff, discussed Digital Security and Cyber Protection of Networks, introducing the Defense Integrated Network, which covers a very large area (70 countries, with 500 national sites and 120 abroad). Col. Angelo Tuccillo, C4 Command of the Army, presented on the Internet of Things (IoT) and its role as pervasive technology. For example, it is foreseen to reach the threshold of 50 billion devices in 2022, without an adequate security level. Then Andrea Boggio, Fastweb, gave the speech The Transformation of Software in Networks and Cybersecurity: Challenges and Opportunities, which underlined how cyber attacks represent the first technological threat, and the fourth in terms of statistics, and the sixth for its impact. Cyber Resilience in Tactical Defense Operations was presented by Carmine Grelle and Andrea Pompili, Cy4Gate-Elettronica Group. The speech referred to the cyber framework of the NIST to guarantee cyber resilience of tactical defense networks in harsh conditions. Marco Morini, Leonardo S.p.A., presented Operational Communications: Flexibility Versus Security, underlining the MANET network structure and its capability to cover different wave patterns providing flexibility and interoperability according to NATO standards. In his speech Networks Security: How to Face New Threats and Network Vulnerability, Alessandro Ercoli, HPE, illustrated the main features of the suite Aruba 360 Secure Fabric, a policy manager vendor diagnostic for the management of big networks with many different devices. Aldo Di Mattia, Fortinet, presented How Artificial Intelligence Can Transform Cyber Defense, highlighting how AI could transform Cyber Defense through its third evolution. Lt. Col. Christian Negro, Teledife Ministry of Defense Directorate, presented the MAN DIFENET of Rome, focusing on the requirements and criteria used to increase the level of security, integrity and availability. Roger Castaldi, Almaviva, introduced Joshua, an end-to-end solution to define, analyze and improve the level of security with an intelligence-driven approach. Antonio Capobianco, Fata Informatica, gave the last speech with a presentation titled The Human Factor in Cybersecurity, which emphasized how human factors characterized the most famous attacks. Finally, the president thanked all speakers and participants, inviting them to visit the related exhibition of communication devices. |
