Moving Toward an integrated Maritime Surveillance |
In July, the chapter organized the conference "Towards an Integrated Maritime Surveillance: Operations, Regulations and Technologies To Increase Cooperation and Efficiency" in Rome to analyze, after two years, the major advances. Lt. Gen. Antonio Tangorra, ITAF (Ret.), chapter chair, welcomed the attendance and underlined the special interest for evolving topics. Capt. Valentino Rinaldi, Navy General Staff, gave the first speech, Maritime Surveillance: the Role of the Italian Navy, depicting the tasks of the Italian Navy for maritime surveillance. Capt. Massimo Petricca, CinC Naval Fleet Headquarters, presented The Pillars of Defense and Security of the Maritime Space and the Communication Lines for the National Interest, describing the main policies of maritime security and international operations. Col. Salvatore Ferrara, ITAF, presented The Utilization of the AMI ISR Capability in the Maritime Surveillance, focusing on the Italian Air Force capabilities to increase situational awareness. The speech The Coast Guard and the Monitoring of Maritime Traffic in the Frame of the European Union by Capt. Giuseppe Aulicino, Italian coast guard, illustrated the European Union (EU) measures for safe maritime traffic management, in particular VTMIS. Lt. Francesco Della Corte, Guardia di Finanza, illustrated The Contribution of the Air-Naval Service and the Operations for Border and Coastal Surveillance-FRONTEX, with results from the FRONTEX operations. In the presentation, Leonardo: New Approaches for Maritime Surveillance by Cristina Massarenti, Leonardo presented an overview of the company's expertise aerial platforms (AW169 and new unmanned systems: Falco, Hero) and airborne sensors. The speech, Multifunctional Radars Under Development for the Naval Law and their Applications for Maritime Surveillance and Aerospace Defense by Rocco Soleti and Fabio Calamari, Navarm, provided an overview of the multifunction radars developed for the new frigates. Marco Martorella, CNIT, presented New Radar Technology for Maritime ISR [intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance], describing technologies interferometric and passive radar for ISR. Matteo Lusignoli, Leonardo, illustrated OCEAN2020: A Technological Demonstrator for Enhanced Situation Awareness in Naval Environment with the Use of Unmanned Systems, a European project with 42 partners from 15 European countries, funded by the EU Defense Fund and implemented by EDA. Patrizia Sacco, ASI, presented The Contribution of Space Technologies for Maritime Surveillance: the EUCISE2020 Project, on the development of a prototype for information exchange with 12 European nodes. Maritime Zones and Related Surveillance: the Evolution of the Legislative Context by Elda Turco Bulgherini, Università Tor Vergata di Roma, illustrated the legislation about surveillance at sea, in particular search and rescue zones. Filippo Daffinà, e-GEOS, presented Space-Based Maritime Situational Awareness, new modes for a global support of Maritime Situation Awareness, in particular SEonSE, developed by e-GEOS, a solution for data processing and fusion. Angelo De Santis, Vitrociset, provided insight about Harbors as Crucial Nodes for Maritime Security, enhancing their role as critical infrastructures requiring specific governance and protection. Maritime Surveillance: the Contribution of Space System presented by Matteo Turi, Thales Alenia Space, illustrated preliminary studies for new maritime surveillance missions with applicable technologies. |
