AFCEA International Chapter News
SOUTHERN ARIZONA CHAPTER CHAPTER - Apr 26, 2007

In May, Jerry V. Proctor, deputy commandant, U.S. Army Intelligence Center, Fort Huachuca presented a discussion entitled "Is America Ready for the Future?" Proctor spoke about and credited Thomas Freidman's book "The World Is Flat." Proctor stated that while U.S. spending per student is among the world's highest, we are ninth globally in high school completion rates. He encouraged professional organizations such as AFCEA to help ensure access to education, especially in science and technology. Proctor also said that in the last 20 years, Japan, China, and South Korea increased their number of engineers, while U.S. numbers are declining. He made several suggestions on how to improve global knowledge. In conclusion Proctor declared, "America is still the best nation in the world to start a business and make a home. Thousands of immigrants prove this every day. America's institutions of higher education remain the best in the free world. However, we must be prepared to face the challenges ahead."
