The chapter is pleased to announce a donation made to the Honolulu Police Department (HPD) in support of COVID-19 supplies. Currently, there is a nationwide shortage of protective equipment which is essential for use by patrol officers and first responders. The World Health Organization has warned that the "mounting disruption to the global supply of personal protective equipment caused by rising demand, panic buying, hoarding and misuse is putting lives at risk from COVID-19 and other infectious diseases." According to Cory Lindo, chapter chairman, "AFCEA Hawaii was made aware that first responders from the patrol division of the Honolulu Police Department were at risk when responding to calls from potential COVID-19 infected residents due to a lack of personal protective equipment." This donation of $1,000 dollars will facilitate HPD's ability to procure additional personal protective equipment (PPE) and will be directly distributed to the patrol division. As of April 5, the Aloha state has reached its 351st confirmed case of COVID-19. Founded in 1953, the chapter has traditionally supported its local STEM community and is proud to support first responders and patrol officers within Hawaii. |
