The chapter's Young AFCEANS made the transition to the virtual environment during the first digital event in October. Formerly known as Mentor Protégé and Networking Night, this new Leadership Forum event provided attendees with an in-depth panel discussion on leadership qualities, career progression, the power of mentorships and other topics vital to professional growth.
Moderated by David Lockhart, manager of the APG Field Office for Boeing Defense, Space and Security, the panel discussion featured thoughts from Brig. Gen. Robert Collins, USA, program executive officer for Command, Control, Communications-Tactical (PEO C3T); Kenneth Strayer, chief of staff for PEO C3T; Susan Edwards, director of operations for Phoenix Operations Group; and Colleen Holloway, division chief of the Tactical Network Sustainment Division for the Integrated Logistics Support Center (ILSC).
Event attendees were treated to a series of personal anecdotes and genuine thoughts from the senior leaders, who reflected on how COVID-19 has reshaped the world around us and redefined what it means to be a leader. In a particularly moving portion of the event, Holloway, a COVID survivor herself, shared how the virus changed her life and helped her reevaluate her priorities and leadership style. The event was a success for all in attendance, and the Young AFCEANS look forward to hosting similar discussions in the coming months. The chapter would like to thank our panelists and moderator, as well as everyone who helped make the first of a long line of digital discussions a success!
