In November, the chapter partnered with the local Harford County Office of Community and Economic Development to welcome Karen Holt, the county federal installation administrator, Office of Community & Economic Development, Harford County Government, for a special tutorial session exploring the time-sensitive CARES Act Business Grant Program.
Now more than ever, our small business community needs financial support. The chapter invited the local expertise in a creative way to ensure our small business members understand this support program given the COVID-19 climate.
Holt reviewed the County Small Business Relief and Business Owner Assistance grants and explained the various benefits. Small business members joined in the information session, which reviewed the benefits, such as $7,500 for payroll, personal protection equipment funding and operating expense supplements, and $5,000 for commercial rent, mortgage or lease financial support.
The Aberdeen Proving Ground (APG), Maryland Office of Small Business Programs also joined the session to share other U.S. Army Small Business opportunities and programs to assist small businesses during this time. The chapter plans on using this event as a foundation for future small business program support as we all navigate through the COVID-19 climate.
Because of the county's federal installation administrator's unique relationship with Aberdeen Proving Ground governmental and the local corporate/academia communities, the chapter instituted a new executive council position of community liaison to allow Holt to continue to foster stronger chapter relationships. This non-voting position was essential for identifying this timely opportunity and will foster stronger ties to the APG Installation.
