In December, Larry Muzzelo, deputy to the commanding general, U.S. Army Communications-Electronics Command (CECOM), addressed the chapter during its monthly technology engagement. In addition to discussing the transition of the Army Medical Logistics Command as a new subordinate organization under CECOM, Muzzelo presented CECOM initiatives as they related to each of the Army's current priorities of people, readiness and modernization.
Under people, he outlined the command's new "Soul of CECOM" program and its renewed effort to foster an equitable, safe and diverse workplace. Under readiness, he shared on CECOM's increasing use of additive manufacturing and achieving 95 percent supply availability for Command, Control, Communications, Computers, Cyber, Intelligence, Surveillance and Reconnaissance (C5ISR) system parts. He noted the command's interest in industry partnerships to help it continue to pursue 100 percent supply availability. He also cited the command's increasing use of repair cycle floats to ensure continuous C5ISR hardware readiness for Army units.
On the software side, he discussed the launch of the new CECOM Software Repository, housing software updates for more than 70 C5ISR systems, as a significant accomplishment for Army software readiness. And under the modernization priority, he discussed CECOM's partnership with Program Executive Office Command Control Communications-Tactical (PEO C3T) to plan for the sustainment of the Army's new Integrated Tactical Network (ITN). Specifically, he cited the command's initial successes with establishing the Tobyhanna Army Depot as a central warranty exchange facility for commercial-off-the-shelf and nonstandard equipment used in the ITN.
In closing, he outlined Aberdeen Proving Ground (APG) organizational support for Operation Warp Speed to secure a COVID-19 vaccine, which includes major lifts by Army Contracting Command-APG and the Joint Program Executive Office for Chemical, Biological, Radiological and Nuclear Defense.
