CCDC Deputy Explores Project Convergence and the Future of Work

In January, John Willison, deputy to the commanding general, U.S. Army Combat Capabilities Development Command (CCDC), addressed the chapter during its regular technology engagement session. He shared the command's science and technology influence over the Army's Project Convergence enterprise and lessons learned from the Future of Work assessment.

Willison explained the yearly Project Convergence campaign phases centering on the Army focus for 2020, joint focus for 2021 and coalition focus in 2022. He cited Aberdeen Proving Ground (APG) as becoming the centerpiece to develop various system capabilities for Project Convergence stakeholders. APG has unique lab facilities that allow lab-based risk reduction on technologies without having to fight these challenges in a field environment.

The Future Of Work explained the lessons learned given the past year of COVID-19 telework transition. This concept paper had an objective to summarize the feedback from the command's 25,000 soldiers, civilians and contractors. This was the culmination of a talent management approach to share what the COVID-19 work experience has taught the command. The main objective of this paper was to maintain and advance competitiveness for the future, addressing where, how, when and for whom we will work. The core theme was to work where you are most productive.
