Small Business Panel Discussion Highlights Compliancy and Grants

In March, the chapter hosted a small business panel centering on the Cybersecurity Maturity Model Certification (CMMC), which was officially made compliant by the Interim Defense Federal Acquisition Regulation Supplement rule 2019-D041. Shane Miller, a certified Maryland cyber seller in Harford County; and Karen Holt, deputy director, the Office of Community & Economic Development; and Scott Kelley, representative, Aberdeen Proving Ground Office of Small Business Programs, share in this discussion.

Insights on leveraging state and federal programs to offset CMMC compliancy costs and COVID-19 related grant programs for small businesses were the highlights for this session. The U.S. Army Office of Small Business featured a save the date review of the Aberdeen Proving Ground Annual Advanced Planning Briefing to Industry.

The chapter has increased small business program emphasis given the COVID-19 environment and the need to better equip local small business. Chris Carr, chapter vice president of small businesses and a small business owner himself, has sought out various industry resources to educate and motivate small business entrepreneurs to better cope with the new operating climate.
