In December, the chapter organized a conference titled "A Possible Cloud for the Italian Defense" held at the premises of Casa dell'Aviatore in Rome. This was an in-person event focused on cloud technology to define the requirements and the most suitable technological solutions, secure by design, for the Italian defense.
Lt. Gen. Antonio Tangorra, ITAF (Ret.), chapter president, welcomed all attendees, underlining how the chapter deals with innovative themes such as cloud to analyze the most critical aspects including security and data sovereignty.
Mariano Valle, NATO Communications and Information Agency, gave the first speech titled "NATO Journey to Cloud Computing," illustrating the NATO approach to cloud and its road map, the Cloud Adoption Strategy.
Giacomo Speretta, senior vice president of marketing, BD & Sales Strategy - Leonardo, in his speech titled, "The Go-to-Cloud Approach: Strategy for a Secure Management of the Information Superiority," illustrated Leonardo's l Cloud Maturity Model based on the integration of new technologies with legacy systems.
Pietro Della Peruta, chief technology officer, IBM Italia, presented "The Cloud Next Step: From Resources Optimization to the Value for Transformation," as well as the IBM approach, open, multi, hybrid and secure.
"The sovereign public cloud for the Italian Defense," by Stefano Stinchi, public sector director, Microsoft, illustrated how the defense cloud is considered one of the strategic projects for the international competitiveness of the Italian defense.
The aspect of data sovereignty was at the center of the speech given by Roberto De Finis, sales manager, Almaviva, "Cloud and Sovereignty: Trade Off Between Innovation and Control," highlighting the problem of technological autonomy and data control.
Gen. B. Camillo Sileo, vice capo VI Reparto, Stato Maggiore Difesa, in his speech "The Strategy for the Digital Transformation of the Defense Sector," illustrated the road map to develop digital capacity to guarantee the data value.
Sebastiano Nuzzi, COR (Centro Operazioni Rete), presented "The Private Cloud of Defense: Architectures and Service Models in Operations," describing the architecture of the Italian Ministry of Defence Private Cloud with its main components.
The speech "EDGE Private Cloud for Mission Critical Applications" by Mirko Leanza, manager, Next Generation Infrastructure & Security, Teleconsys, illustrated the cloud computing applications related to the edge cloud, for in-theatre operations.
Giuseppe Lieto, DigitalPlatforms, with the speech titled "Automated Deployable Private Cloud to Support Onsite Missions," explained how the Automated Private Cloud allows the deployment of services, networks and applications in a public and hybrid cloud environment.
The speech "Data Sovereignty in Cloud" was given by Alessandro Di Felice, key account manager, OVHCloud, presenting regulations aspects and the criteria needed to establish if the cloud applies sovereignty.
Leandro Aglieri Vates concluded the conference with "The Role of a Solution Opensource of Virtualization, Secure and Reliable in Cloud Computing.'
At the end, the chapter president thanked all speakers and participants for their interest in the cloud and wished all of them seasons' greetings.
