In March, the chapter organized the conference "AFCEA Rome Chapter Commitment in STEM Disciplines: Presentation of the Second Level Master Theses in the Field of Quantum Information and Communication, Navigation and Satellite Sensing Systems."
Lt. Gen. Antonio Tangorra, ITAF (Ret.), chapter president, welcomed the attendees, highlighting the chapter's constant support of the officers' education by funding grants for several years in the two master's degree courses in Engineering and International Space Law in Communication, Navigation and Satellite Sensing Systems at the University of Rome Tor Vergata and Optics and Quantum Information at the University of Rome La Sapienza. To prove this commitment, the chapter decided to organize an event for the presentation of the theses carried out in the last academic year, representative of the two master's degrees.
Concita Sibilia, professor, director of the master's program at La Sapienza University, and Fabio A. Bovino, professor, presented the elements of the master's degrees provided by their University and introduced four officers attending the program. The officers presented the following theses:
Capt. Salvatore de Mattia, Italian army, NATO M&S Centre of Excellence: "Quantum Radar."
Lt. Vittorio Calligaris, ITAF, Experimental Flight Department IAF: "Swarm Based Mobile Quantum Network."
Lt. Saverio de Vito, ITAF, IAF Logistic Command: "Quantum Deep Learning: The Case Study of Boltzmann Machines."
Lt. Marcello Orlandesi, Italian Army, E.I. Cybernetics Security Department: "Quantum Satellite Communications."
Ernestina Cianca, professor and director of the II Level Master in Engineering and International Space Law in Satellite Systems for Communication, Navigation and Sensing provided by the University of Tor Vergata, introduced the five attending officers that presented the following theses:
Lt. Veronica Vissicchio, ITAF, Space Operations Command: "Preliminary Design of an Inter-Satellite Link for COSMO and SICRAL Constellations."
Lt. Filippo Manni, Italian Navy, Navy General Staff: "The Use of Satellite Systems for Maritime Surveillance."
Lt. Commander Stefano D'Agostino, Italian Navy, Space Operations Command: "Information Security Management System of the National PRS Center."
Lt. Vincenzo LaMorte, Italian Army, Secretariat General of Defence/National Armaments Directorate: "Evaluation of Performance and Space Operations of a Geostationary Satellite with Electrical Propulsion."
Lt. Col. Alessandro Galliani, ITAF, IAF Logistic Command: "Comparison of the Total Columnar Ozone Values Collected by Satellite by Means of the Total Ozone Mapping Spectrometer; Earth Probe (TOMS-EP) and the Ozone Monitoring Instrument (OMI); and Aura With the Data Collected on the Ground by Means of the Brewer Spectrophotometer Installed at the Technical Center for Meteorology (CTM) of the Air Force.'
At the end of the event, the chapter president thanked all the participants and in particular, the teachers of the II Level Master courses and all the officers who have brilliantly completed their courses of study while carrying out their service duties. He also announced that all the theses are available on the chapter website: https://afcearoma.it/iniziative/master
