Chapter Hosts Juneteenth at the New York Stock Exchange

In a follow-up to AFCEA's Blacks-on-Wall-Street (BoWS) STEM Club Program in underserved high schools, AFCEA supported BoWS's 9th Annual Forum benefiting contest-winning students from Rhode Island, New York City, Chicago, New Orleans and New Jersey.

All were treated to a buffet in an upper floor ballroom, then onto the trading floor to see finance (and cybersecurity) in action. After a New Year's Eve-style closing bell (10 minutes of cheering), it was back to the ballroom for the speakers, panelists and questions from the students.

Five successful information technology and finance professionals discussed how they overcame odds to reach the top of their fields. Students took turns on stage discussing their winning entries. AFCEA presented its benefits for the students. Some engineering-aspiring students even became AFCEA members that day.

We (the adults) attended the event to inspire the students. But the students' commitment and aspirations for their future inspired us.
