Chapter Organizes Conference on Earth Observation

In June, the chapter organized a conference titled "Earth Observation: Solutions for the Technological Growth and Economic Recovery of the Country," held at ESA-ESRIN European Space Agency in Frascati. The conference focused on new technologies and solutions in the field of Earth observation. The first part of the event hosted a round table attended by distinguished guests, representatives of the main stakeholders in the field, who discussed state-of-the-art methods and perspectives of Earth observation. These presenters included Simonetta Cheli, ESA director of Earth Observation and ESRIN facility chief; Roberto Formaro, ASI; Lt. Gen. Angelo Gervasio, director of Teledife; Massimo Comparini, CEO of Thales Alenia Space Italia; Luigi Pasquali, CEO of Telespazio; Giovanni Sylos Labini, president of the Osiris Consortium; and Brig. Gen. Danilo Morando, deputy chief of the 2nd Department of General Staff. The second part of the conference was devoted to the speeches.

Guido Levrini, ESA, presented "The Iride Constellation" and illustrated the most important European low-Earth orbit satellite space programs that will be implemented in Italy. Diego Calabrese, Thales Alenia Space Italia, spoke about the evolution of SAR space systems for effective demand response, describing the current context in the space sector, which has fostered the development of new applications and technologies.

Maria Lucia Magliozzi, e-Geos, presented the results of the project "Prototype Development Based on PRISMA Data: water quality, fuel maps, material detection and vegetation indicators."

Capt. Alberto Guerini, Teledife, provided a broad overview of acquisition and study programs already underway and forthcoming in the national and European arena, highlighting interactions with partners and stakeholders.

Giovanni Fuggetta, Leonardo, in "Leonardo Products and Solutions for Earth Observation," gave an excursus on the activities in the field carried out by the company and its Electronics Division over the years.

Francesco Longo, ASI, presented "The Italian Space Agency Current and Future Earth Observation Missions." He outlined the eight main objectives and related programs of the Italian Space Agency.

In "Information Ecosystems: Securing Tools To Guide P.A.'s Efforts To Safeguard the Environment," Fulvio Conti, Almaviva, presented two use cases implemented in the Municipality of Messina to analyze complex phenomena and provide prevention and mitigation solutions.

Claudio Carboni, Esri Italy, in "Earth Observation and the Esri Platform for Faster and More Effective Decisions," explained how Esri technology provides a rich catalog of global environmental data to simplify and digitize the collection, management, visualization, analysis and sharing of any kind of data. Paolo Spera, Consorzio Osiride, presented the Consortium, recently formed by Exprivia, D-Orbit, Serco Italia, and Planetek Italia to share a vision and common understanding and provide a unique capability for the IRIDE program. Sara Zollini, University of L'Aquila, outlined the Geomatics lab's activity on "Integration Between Optical and SAR Imagery for Shoreline Extraction."

Valerio Gagliardi, University Roma Tre, closed the day with "New Frontiers of Applied Research: The Role of Satellite and NDTS Data in Civil Engineering."
