Emerging Leaders Go the Distance for STEM

In September, over 100 members from the chapter, joined by the motivated ROTC troops from Worcester Polytechnic Institute, the University of Massachusetts Lowell and the University of New Hampshire, came out to run the beautiful historic Minuteman Trail to raise money for AFCEA STEM scholarships, as well as try for a chance to win a vast array of fabulous prizes! Evan Gaj, race director, Oasis Systems, Miranda Tofalo from Odyssey Systems, and Alex Swope from the Air Force Life Cycle Management Center, planned this successful event. Overall winner Alex Carpenter led the men with a time of 19:01; Erika Varady led the women with a time of 22:41. Age group (30-49) winners included Mike Magerman and Elisabeth Sorrows. Scott McDonald and Elena Ivanova won the 40-49 category; Mike Dimauro and Kim Murtagh won the 50-59 category; and Lori Johnson and Scott Hardiman won the 60+ age group. Air Force Detachment 340 Team took the top prize in the team category.
