Chapter Holds Cyber Career Awareness Meeting

The student section of the chapter recently observed the Cyber Security Career Awareness Week declared by the National Institute for Cybersecurity Education by holding a meeting at the Western Maricopa Education Center's (West-MEC) Verrado campus. West-MEC is a comprehensive Career and Technical Education center serving 16 school districts with four campuses across the Phoenix area.

The session, presented by John McMillin, chapter treasurer, as part of the quarterly computer security program advisory council meeting, focused on the principles of Zero Trust-Continual Trust Verification Environment as defined by the National Cyber Center of Excellence. West-MEC's computer security students are eager participants in cyber exercises around the world, including the AFCEA-sponsored Midnight Sun competition coordinated by Harri Larson from the University of Stockholm. The student teams are well taught and directed by their instructors, Paul Getz and Bradley Whitaker. Most of them achieve industry certifications before moving into commercial or government positions.
