In September, the chapter organized an event titled, "Cyber Armory: the New Reality of Hybrid Conflicts," which included an initial round table and a set of presentations about the state-of the art in this sector.
With an introduction by the chapter president, Lt. Gen. Antonio Tangorra, ITAF (Ret.), and chaired by Marco Braccioli, member of the chapter's Technical Scientific Committee, the round table was made up of top-level representatives from the national institutions, academic world and industries. Lt. Gen. Angelo Gervasio, ITAF, TELEDIFE; Domitilla Benigni and Emanuele Galtieri, Elettronica; Gennaro Faella, Leonardo; Matteo Lucchetti, 4.0; Alberto Manfredi, CSA Italy; and Walter Quattrociocchi, Università La Sapienza di Roma.
The round table provided an opportunity to debate about the cyber dimension, nowadays one of the main pillars of hybrid conflicts, as testified by the war in Ukraine where cyber attacks and the use of fake news are some of the tools used together with traditional weapons. At the end, the conference focused on the interventions of speakers from main institutions and industries presenting their own activities. Fabrizio Cassoni, Fortinet, presented "Kill Chain: Cyber Tools and Security Awareness," defining the measures currently used to react against cyber threats in hybrid contexts. Mirko Leanza, Teleconsys, illustrated "Data Security and Hybrid Threats," underlining how it is fundamental to react against incidents immediately to limit their effects, with technologies integrating resilient models.
In his presentation "The COR and Its Contribution to National Cybersecurity," Lt. Col. Francesco Passaniti, Comando Operazioni in Rete, presented the role of the COR and, more generally, of the national defense contributing to research and development, and education and training.
Col. Antonio Di Pardo, TELEDIFE, in his speech about "The Role and Contribution of TELEDIFE to Cyber Resilience in the Defence sector," illustrated the current activities in progress by TELEDIFE to deploy procedures for the cyber resilience of defense information systems.
Claudio Malavenda, Digital Platforms, illustrated the "CEMA Capabilities To React Against Hybrid Threats,' describing the CEMA (Cyber Electro-Magnetic Activities)-based solutions developed by Digital Platforms, ranging from Tempest to Cyber Security and Cyber Intelligence ones.
The speech of Valerio Fumi, S&A Sistemi e Automazione, titled "Intelligence in the Digital Metaverse," provided a wide view of the investigation approach in different intelligence sectors.
"The Active Defence in your Enterprise of Things (EOT)," was the title of the presentation given by Pietro De Loiro, Forescout, focused on a solution for continuous and unified protection of information devices, where remote activities are increasing, enlarging the area for cyber attacks.
The last presentation was given by Alessio Di Benedetto, VEEAM, about "Back Up Activity Like the Last Defence Line," underlining how cyber attacks are moving to back-up systems, to be protected for enabling recovery.
The chapter president concluded the event by thanking all speakers and participants, inviting them all to follow the future AFCEA initiatives.
