SOUTH FLORIDA CHAPTER CHAPTER - Dec 01, 2022

Chapter Announces South Florida Election Results

The 2022-2023 Elections results are finally in. Many thanks to the following members who stepped up to keep the chapter moving and growing into the future.
President: Marlon Atherton, U.S. Southern Command, J38
Secretary: Officer Ryan Liss, Coral Springs Police Department (Major, U.S. Air Force Reserves)
Treasurer: Jay Anson, Lennar Technology Services

Over the last three years, the board of directors shepherded the chapter through the COVID-19 lockdown and its residual effects. AFCEA South Florida was named an AFCEA Model Chapter for 2020, 2021 and 2022.

The chapter stayed engaged with U.S. Southern Command and DISA South. The chapter reengaged with U.S. Special Operations Command-South and Joint Interagency Task Force-South. Membership grew by 20%, including an awesome steering committee. The chapter corrected financial policy and strategy shortfalls to refocus on STEM scholarships and networking events.

Most importantly, the chapter revitalized its STEM Scholarship Program. For the first time since 2015, the chapter awarded $3,500 in scholarships to six deserving students in 2022 and is on track to award at least another $2,500 in scholarships next year.

Finally, many thanks to the corporate sponsors who've consistently supported the chapter these past few years. Their consummate support has been invaluable to STEM scholarships in South Florida and the chapter's success. Thank you, Microsoft, Venatôre, Meridian Partners, General Dynamics Information Technology, DataRobot, Cyabra , Guardian Cyber LLC and Taylors Govt Service. Last but not least, the chapter thanks its outgoing 1st Vice President Wil Martinez, Meridian Partners. Thank you for all your support, advice and mentorship these past three years. On that note, the chapter's 1st and 2nd vice president positions are still open. Please contact the chapter if you are interested in running for one of these open seats. The chapter looks forward to moving into 2023.
