Chapter Diversity Outreach Team Hosts Mentoring Event

In February, the chapter's Diversity Outreach team hosted a mentorship panel to discuss "What To Do Today To Plan for Your Career Tomorrow." The panel members Anna Boom, engineer, CX Consulting, Cisco; Leonard Goolsby, director, Plans and Resources, 86th Communications Squadron; and Matt Wloczewski, vice president, EITEN Program, GDIT, talked about the various cybersecurity jobs in industry and federal government as well as the certifications and education requirements associated with those positions. The panel was moderated by Col. James Austin, chief, A6 Theater Operations Division, U.S. Air Forces in Europe-Air Forces Africa.

As part of the discussion, the panelists provided insight into the character traits, skills and education hiring managers look for when considering candidates for open job positions. A few of the primary points mentioned were: being a team a player; understanding the importance of reputation and performing to the best of your ability; seeking continuous education and certifications as technology rapidly advances; and remaining relevant. The session wrapped up with a networking social to allow attendees time to talk with the panelists one-on-one.

The chapter's Diversity Outreach team will host a follow-on session in May to discuss resume writing and interviewing skills.
