SOUTH FLORIDA CHAPTER CHAPTER - Jun 28, 2007

Rethinking SOUTHCOM

The chapter's June luncheon featured Brig. Gen. Nolen V. Bivens, USA, chief of staff, Headquarters, US Southern Command (SOUTHCOM). Gen. Bivens shared insight on where SOUTHCOM is going as it moves towards a joint interagency security command with security, stability, and prosperity as its prime missions. He challenged the audience to understand the importance of the SOUTHCOM region, to consider interagency partnerships, to reach for innovative solutions and to see the global connections. He used Joint Interagency Task Force South, one of SOUTHCOM's direct reporting units, as a model for regional operations at the tactical level, and highlighted the need for SOUTHCOM to duplicate that success at the operational level. He asked the AFCEA South Florida Chapter members and corporate sponsors to be chapter president, thanked Gen. Bivens for taking time from his busy schedule to speak to the chapter on this important topic.
