The chapter's February Small Business Breakfast featured a keynote from Philip Alcorn, director of the Army Cyber Technology and Innovation Center (ArCTIC) at U.S. Army Cyber Command (ARCYBER). Alcorn opened with an overview of ARCYBER's mission to protect and defend Army and Department of Defense network systems. He detailed the interagency collaboration that strengthened their capabilities and pointed to a gap in the rapid acquisition of cyber-specific equipment and capabilities that led to the establishment of ArCTIC. Under Alcorn's leadership, ArCTIC has become a dynamic hub for the fast-tracked development and deployment of cybersecurity technologies. He shared that the center is actively working to increase its limited acquisition authority, which stands at $500,000 for research, development, test and evaluation (RDT&E) and $2 million for procurement. Alcorn underscored ArCTIC's commitment to pioneering research through strategic alliances with government agencies, industry, and educational institutions. The center is poised to spearhead advancements in cyber, electronic warfare and information dominance technology. The briefing covered a road map of ArCTIC's forthcoming interests, including sophisticated analytical algorithms, hyper-automation, defensive decoys, API intelligence and anomaly detection in cyber operations. These focal areas offer collaborative opportunities for industry and academic partners to bring forward technological innovations. Companies interested in contributing to ARCYBER's mission were invited to coordinate through the provided websites for presentations and product demonstrations, with an emphasis that technical capability will be the primary criterion for evaluation.
