Digital Transformation and Resilience: Experiences and Solutions

The event "Digital Transformation and Resilience: Experiences and Solutions" organized by the chapter in collaboration with corporate member DigitalPlatforms (DP), was held in September at the Casa dell'Aviatore in Rome.

Lt. Gen. Antonio Tangorra, ITAF (Ret.), chapter president, introduced the event by highlighting the importance of digital transformation and related cyber resilience in defense.

The first talk was presented by Marco Braccioli, who briefly outlined DP's technology lines in the fields of energy and telecontrols, Internet of Things (IoT), electronic cards manufacturing, Tempest, cybersecurity, artificial intelligence (AI) and digital integration. Braccioli remarked that the group produces everything presented in the conference in the various factories of the DigitalPlatforms Group in Italy.

Next, Lorenzo Chiapponi, DP Infrastructures, in his speech "Digital Transformation for Energy," illustrated the production of digital telecontrols for high and medium voltage and their possible use in defense electricity networks, as well as the TLC part called Volte for a new architecture of switchless fiber optic networks.

The talk "Energy Efficiency-Omicron Industriale" by Pierpaolo Borghini, Omicron, focused on energy efficiency of power grids and power shelter with alternative energies and indoor and outdoor power stations.

The talk by Igor Tornati, UMPI, titled "Digital Transformation for Smart Cities and Smart Grids (IoT/Sensors)," addressed the DP production of IoT and sensors for smart grids, smart cities, smart military campuses, and the use of IoBTs (Internet of Battlefield Things) in the operational environment (OT).

"National Capability: Producing Electronic Boards for Digital Transformation," was introduced by Giuseppe Abate, Gibiesse, who spoke on the ability to produce or retrofit electronic boards at the plant located in Lombardy, an Italian capability that is increasingly rare but strengthens the security of the country's system.

Fabio Cornevilli, System & Management, then focused on "Digital Transformation in Logistics and the Training," illustrating new digital logistics models and solutions for ports and airports as well as presenting experience in training, modeling and simulation.

The next talk, "Tempest and Surroundings," by Loris Ciferni, DP Defence, addressed electronic warfare defense and electromagnetic signal abatement on both digital and electrical parts.

This was followed by Nicola Grandis, Aida46, who presented interesting AI-based cyber intelligence products for defense in his talk "AI Solutions for Cyber Intelligence (Defense and Attack)," together with Gabriele Liverziani, DP Cyber, who illustrated a series of IT/OT solutions for the industrial world that can be easily integrated into the military world in the talk "Cyber Solutions for IT/OT."

In the last talk, "Offensive Defense and Intrusion Detection," Carlo Sanghez, Securware, a spinoff company created by DP, together with the University Federico II of Naples-Systems Engineering, presented solutions and expertise in intrusion detection and offensive defense.
