MATHCOUNTS 2025: It All Adds Up to a Successful Competition

In March, Stantec Consulting Services in Burlington, Massachusetts, hosted the Massachusetts MATHCOUNTS state competition. MATHCOUNTS is a nationwide program designed to boost middle school mathematics skills through engaging "bee style" competitions and coaching. The event boasted 127 students from 41 schools. The students advanced from regional competitions, which originally hosted 794 students from 121 schools. AFCEA volunteers proctored exams and donated $250 toward scholarships for the top five students, four of whom will compete nationally. The AFCEA team included Alex Swope, Alex Passafiume, Michele Cimino and Brennan Graham.

Students included Brandon Ni, Jonas Clarke Middle School, Lexington, Massachusetts; Shlōk Mukund, Jonas Clarke Middle School; Eric Huang, R.J. Grey Junior High School, Acton, Massachusetts; Ermin Dong, Jonas Clarke Middle School; and Soham Samantha, Greater Commonwealth Virtual School, Greenfield, Massachusetts.
