SOUTH FLORIDA CHAPTER CHAPTER - Aug 21, 2007 |
The chapter's August luncheon was held in conjunction with the U.S. Army's LandWarNet 2007 conference in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. The luncheon was highlighted by a keynote speech by Maj. Gen. (P) Jeffrey A. Sorenson, USA, chief information officer/G6 nominee, headquarters, Department of the Army. Gen. Sorenson's theme was 'Conducting Information Enabled Joint Warfighting and Supporting Operations.' He discussed trends such as posturing for persistent conflict while operating in a complex environment. He also stressed the need to sustain the momentum of modernization and to build strategic communication capabilities that can effectively communicate with internal and external audiences. He touched on goals for his '500 day plan' and his top six priorities, one of which is the creation of area processing centers/fixed regional hub nodes to improve delivery services, information assurance and Security, and to achieve net-centric operations and reduce the total cost of ownership for information technology. |
