ORLANDO-CENTRAL FLORIDA CHAPTER CHAPTER - Feb 20, 2008

The chapter welcomed Col. John Wilcox, USA, United States Special Operations Command (USSOCOM) (J-6) at its February luncheon meeting. Col. Wilcox reviewed the roles and missions of USSOCOM and highlighted the command's history and structure. He discussed the priorities set by the USSOCOM commander to deter, disrupt and defeat terrorist threats; develop and support people and families; and sustain and modernize the Special Operations Forces (SOF). As the command's J-6, Col. Wilcox's responsibilities are to insure full spectrum information dominance for SOF through its global network and communications systems. He said a key capability to accomplish the latter is through the SOF Information Enterprise, the command's global network supporting the conduct of operations across the spectrum of military operations. He noted that while the ability to rapidly pass information has improved greatly in recent years, the force still operates in a seamed world of virtual hurdles limiting shared awareness.
