Strengthening the U.S.-Japanese Alliance |
The chapter was honored in March to have Lt. Gen. Edward A. Rice Jr., USAF, the new commander, U.S. Forces Japan and 5th Air Force, as guest speaker for its monthly dinner meeting. Gen. Rice briefed the audience on strengthening the alliance, the importance of bilateral information sharing, his appreciation of AFCEA and his top priorities since assuming command in February. He emphasized the strategic importance of the U.S.-Japanese alliance, stating that the Pacific region is probably one of the most important areas to be cognizant of in the 21st century, especially with regard to the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan. He stressed the importance of operational readiness, as well as the huge challenge facing the information technology community as it battles the war in cyberspace. |
