GREATER MONMOUTH CHAPTER CHAPTER - Nov 20, 2008 |
Army Plans for Future Strategic Trends |
The chapter's November meeting featured guest speaker Col. Scot MacKenzie, USA, director for strategic planning, U.S. Army Communications-Electronics Command (CECOM) Life Cycle Management Command (LCMC). Col. MacKenzie's presentation concentrated on the critical issues and trends the Army will deal with at the strategic level for the next 10-15 years. These issues include current or future states/countries that are struggling in Southwest Asia, such as Afghanistan, and also on the African continent; consequences of economic globalization, religious extremism and the asymmetric threat; population growth and youth concentration in certain countries; proliferation of weapons of mass destruction; and energy and global warming. Each of these areas, the colonel says, will have a direct impact on the United States and its allies, as well as on the U.S. Army's response to events in support of national policy. |
