Biography - Joshua D. Smak

 

Lead Engineer at the U.S. Coast Guard’s Command, Control, Communications, Computers, Cyber and Intelligence Service Center (C5ISC) in the Engineering Services Division’s Sensors and Electronics Branch.  Responsible for leading engineering development for navigation sensors and vessel identification systems deployed on over 1,300 Coast Guard Cutters and small boats.  

- Rapidly integrated encrypted GPS solutions onboard applicable U.S. Coast Guard Fast Response Cutters (FRCs) in response to GPS jamming and spoofing.  
- Developed and deployed portable Encrypted Automatic Identification System (EAIS) kits to support southwest border 87' patrol boat operations.  
- Selected to serve as Lead Engineer to support the U.S. Coast Guard's Force Design 2028 (FD28) Coastal Sentinel Initiative, to provide the service's next-generation maritime surveillance capability. Urgently assembled a team to implement a Sensor Pilot for the new System in San Diego, CA, setting conditions for enterprise adoption.
