CENTRAL MARYLAND CHAPTER CHAPTER - Apr 29, 2014 |
WIIG Spring Speaker Event |
In April, the chapter's Women in Intelligence Group (WIIG) held its Spring Speaker event featuring guest speakers Dr. Deborah Frincke, associate director for education and training, National Security Agency/Central Security Service; Dawn Meyerriecks, deputy director for science and technology, CIA; and Christina Monaco, deputy director, Office of Corporate Communications, National Geospatial-Intelligence Agency. Nearly 100 industry representatives attended the event, hosted by Raytheon, with the topic "Leadership Toolbox." The speakers' candid discussions surrounding the tools necessary for leadership was clearly impactful to those in attendance. As one attendee stated, "It is wonderful to attend events with very powerful, highly respected women and know that they have faced and continue to face the challenges each of us do on a daily basis. Hearing their stories (professional and personal) and what they were able to accomplish even though they face daily challenges is an inspiration." Another attendee indicated, "The speakers were great, and they really focused on the growth of their career and the challenges they met. As someone in the beginning of my career, I loved hearing about how they handled struggles, and that they truly did face the same decisions many of us do." The WIIG provides a forum for women of all career levels and disciplines to address gender-specific challenges in the workplace, lessons learned and best practices. Through networking events, seminars and education initiatives, the WIIG strives and succeeds in preparing talented women for leadership within the intelligence community. |
