CENTRAL MARYLAND CHAPTER CHAPTER - Nov 18, 2014 |
Women in Intelligence Group Hosts Speaker Series |
In November, the chapter's Women in Intelligence Group (WIIG) held another successful installment of its Speaker Series. Hosted by Microsoft, the semiannual event had nearly 100 registrants. Speakers included Terri Fyock, director of business management and integration at the National Security Agency (NSA); Nancy Holliday, vice president, Microsoft Worldwide Services; and Ann White, NSA data acquisition associate director for targeting strategy and mission integration. Speakers covered topics from personal to professional, identifying the one action they have taken throughout their career that has accounted for the majority of their success. Holliday said she speaks up and gives her opinion—that she has a point of view on everything and that 90 percent of life is showing up. White indicated that she was never bound by organizational boundaries and that her true desire was to influence other organizations and build collaborative solutions. Fyock simply said, “Never, never, never quit, especially when you know something isn't right.” Attendees at the event had this to say: “I loved that the panelists addressed challenges that affect the rest of us. In addressing the constant fragile balance between work and life, Ann White conveyed her philosophy of one's responsibility to define her own success and to make deliberate choices that align to it, and then being comfortable with those choices. Terri Fyock advocated for advanced planning to ensure that her family remained well-occupied during summer breaks. Nancy Holliday pointed out that she looks at the long-term balance between her time investment with family and work and leverages support from technology and her network when she travels.” Another attendee said, “This was my first WIIG event, and I will definitely be coming back. It is so valuable to hear from others' success stories and learning experiences.” |
