Students Earn Chapter Fellowship Awards
In May, the chapter held its annual Fellowship Awards Banquet at the Burlington Marriott Hotel, Burlington, Massachusetts. Bob Chisolm, chapter vice president, education, presided as master of ceremonies. Scholarships of $1,000 were awarded to 23 exceptional high school seniors pursuing undergraduate degrees in STEM disciplines. Eleven corporate sponsors participated in the Fellowship Awards program by providing each student with a paid, full-time summer internship delivering practical STEM experience before college. Sponsors included Abacus Technology, Booz Allen Hamilton, DCS Corporation, Draper Laboratory, Fisheye Software, General Dynamics, MIT Lincoln Laboratory, The MITRE Corporation, Oasis Systems, The Raytheon Company and Riverside Research. Gilbert A. Barrett III assisted Chisholm in presenting the Gilbert A. Barrett Award to Gati Aher, Burlington High School, Burlington, Massachusetts. The Barrett Award carries an additional $2,000 scholarship to the top-ranked student among the award recipients. Steve Falcone, director of engineering, Digital Program Executive Office, Hanscom Air Force Base, Massachusetts, and former chapter president and board chair, shared his experiences as a STEM student and a STEM career professional.
