ALAMO CHAPTER CHAPTER - Oct 24, 2019

Alamo Chapter's YAC Mentor Protege Night

The chapter hosted its Annual Mentor Protégé Night where government, industry and academic mentors converged with protégés aged 40 and under in a speed networking environment. The event was held at Topgolf San Antonio with capped attendance numbers and over 70 participants. The chapter welcomed a few special guests to include students from Roosevelt High School's Cyber Patriot team, cadets from Civil Air Patrol's Cyber Patriot team and students from San Antonio's own GhostWire Academy. The event opened with a cocktail reception and buffet, followed by welcome remarks from Jason Edwards, compliance director, USAA Cybersecurity. The protégés were allotted six to eight minutes to chat with mentors before switching tables until they had a chance to meet and speak with all of them. To close the night, two winners were selected to receive Security+ vouchers donated by CompTIA and presented by Brig. Gen. Scott Bethel, USAF (Ret.). Col. 'Del' Monti Knode, USAF, commander, 67th Cyberspace Operations Group, presented two vouchers for the Offensive Security Certified Professional (PWK+30) course donated by Offensive Security. Finally, Kekai Namauu, CEO of Dynamic Advancement, presented one winner with a Certified Information Systems Security Professional Boot Camp and test voucher. Dynamic Advancement also presented our youngest attendee with a pocket drone and, in an effort to promote networking, the protégé who collected the most business cards received a Microsoft Surface tablet. The chapter greatly appreciates the mentors who dedicated their time and knowledge, the protégés who attended, the chapter board members who supported and the many volunteers that made the event possible! We look forward to an even better Mentor Protégé Night in 2020!
