SFAB/ITN Panel Discusses Fielding of Experimental Solutions

For the November luncheon, the chapter hosted a special panel for the program executive officer (PEO) Command, Control, and Communications-Tactical (C3T) Security Force Assistance Brigade (SFAB) and Integrated Tactical Network (ITN). The SFAB/ITN panel was composed of Nick Saacks, chief, Readiness Management Division; Capt. Jonathan Dodge, USA, project manager, Tactical Radios/product manager, Helicopter and Multimission Radios; and Derick Furtado, project manager, Tactical Network/product manager, Satellite Communications. This panel provided an open-forum discussion on the SFAB fielding, an experimental practice of ITN. SFAB units are deployed to train, assist and accompany operations with allied and partner nations, and they often deploy new systems and technology to aid in this mission. The SFAB is working to implement a DevOps model, injecting live feedback from the deployed unit into the vendor development process to involve the user in continuous improvement. The panel also discussed things they would like to improve in the future, including configuration management practices, validation and testing, scheduling, and proper documentation for deployed solutions. The ITN will continue to explore vendor solutions for the SFAB through the spring of 2020, keeping in line with the Army's modernization initiative.
