Chapter Conducts Two-Day Data Science Training

The chapter recognizes that cybersecurity encompasses many disciplines and industries and values the importance of providing their members courses that involve what their members work with daily. For the chapter's first Lunch-N-Learn of 2020, the chapter brought data science, data analysis and machine learning to over 30 technical analysts and program managers from industry and government. Over the course of the two-day event, the class integrated intelligence analysis, data science and machine learning solutions. The class was introduced to various machine learning techniques which included predictive analysis, data modeling and data governance in data science. Charles Brice, vice president of education, spearheaded this event with the sponsorship of IntelliGenesis who brought in their senior SIGINT development analyst, Stephen Scarbrough CISSP, CEH, who led the course. The hands-on learning portion of the training incorporated numerous data sources. As part of the instruction, Scarbrough stated that machine learning is different from artificial intelligence and that machine learning should not be used on its own for critical decision making. During the two-day course, participants learned the difference between data analysis and data science and that both draws from many fields such as mathematics, statistics, business intelligence, cloud computing and several other technical skills. The chapter is looking forward to the events planned for 2020, which will include many areas of interest for their members.
