ODU Student Chapter Visits Visits Navy Cyber Defense Operations Command

Old Dominion University Student Chapter hosted sailors from the Navy Cyber Defense Operations Command (NCDOC) in February. Students and faculty were able to gain a better understanding of the mission of NCDOC, internship opportunities sharing information about the cyber mission, potential roles and responsibilities of various cyber personnel across our command and what a "day-in-the-life" of cyber personnel (or student interns) might look like while at NCDOC. Students asked the representatives to discuss multiple topics ranging from the process of acquiring a security clearance; the skills, certifications and/or degrees needed for entry-level positions; internship opportunities; and even reservist information for current student veterans. Special thanks to the executive officer, Cmdr. Steve Sollon, USN, for taking time out of his busy schedule to come out and give his personal insights on life in the Navy cyber world. Thanks to Rebecca Siders for coordinating all the details of the visit. Finally, thanks to all the NCDOC sailors that took time out of their busy schedules to talk to the students and share experiences.
