In July, over 80 government and industry members participated in the AFCEA International Aberdeen Chapter Annual Golf Tournament at Wetlands Golf Course in Aberdeen Maryland. The Golf Tournament, the chapter's only annual fundraiser, supports their successful education program supporting teachers and students from elementary school through college. Nearly $14,000 was raised benefiting the chapter's local scholarship program thanks to the generosity of local sponsors. The chapter incorporated social distance safety measures, a mask sponsorship, hand sanitizer and other safety precautions to ensure a safe, socially distanced tee time. Attendees showed up eager to get out, play golf and network again post quarantine. Many attendees provided feedback to the AFCEA staff that they are looking forward to more events and networking opportunities after many events were canceled by other organizations in the community. Based on feedback from 2020 local scholarship and grant recipients, the chapter is planning their annual Scholarship dinner to allow for safe social distancing at the Water's Edge Event Center on August 6th. The event will showcase the achievements of local students and faculty as they are formally recognized with their monetary Educational Foundation awards. Giorgio Bertolio, acting director, C5ISR Center, Intelligence and Electronic Warfare Directorate (I2WD), will share the importance of education as a foundation to future success. In addition to other social distance and safety measures, for the first time, the venue will livestream the event, in recognition of those who could not attend in person. The proven chapter success of the annual Golf Tournament and our generous local sponsors has realized over $421,000 over the past ten years benefiting our local students and educators.
