Virtual Emerging Leader Event Features Cyber Expert

In March, the Virtual Emerging Leader (formerly Young AFCEAN) Power Speaker Event was held with Col. Kevin Johnson, USAF, deputy director for Air, Space and Cyberspace Operations and chief information officer, Headquarters Air Force Materiel Command, Wright-Patterson Air Force Base, Ohio. He is responsible for shaping the cyber workforce and cyber infrastructure for operations to test, field and sustain agile war-winning capabilities. He formulates policy and guidance for information technology operations and directs activities to implement a $120 million annual operations budget supporting 80,000 customers across eight military installations and multiple geographically separated units. He oversees a portfolio of 900 systems, providing guidance for $1.2 billion in capital investments, ensuring the security of classified and unclassified networks and supporting risk assessment activities. He also assists the director in the command's flight and test policy and resource allocation for flight management, airfield services, weather services and command and control operations and plans. Col. Johnson entered active duty in May 1995 through the U.S. Air Force Academy. He has commanded five times and has served at the major command, joint sub-unified command and air staff levels. Before taking his current position, Col. Johnson was the commander, 7th Mission Support Group, Dyess Air Force Base, Texas. Col. Johnson has deployed four times; twice as the director of Communications and Information, J-6, for two special operations task forces, and twice as a deployed squadron commander.
