Webinar Discusses the Advanced Battle Management System

Randall G. Walden, Senior Executive Service, director and program executive officer, Department of the Air Force, Rapid Capabilities Office, Office of the Assistant Secretary of the Air Force for Acquisition, Technology and Logistics, Washington, D.C., was the featured guest speaker at the chapter's June webinar. Walden discussed the mission of the Rapid Capabilities Office and the future of the Air Force Advanced Battle Management System (ABMS). He noted that his office is agility focused; brings the right expertise to the mission; and involves the warfighter early. While empowered to execute quickly, his office must, nonetheless, follow statutes but is able to deliver capability (not demonstrations) speedily by streamlining policies/regulations. He discussed each of the ABMS capabilities, which include secure processing, connectivity, data management, applications, sensor integration and effects integration. He also noted that ABMS will share data and integrate other systems to provide warfighter capability but always with the imperative to deliver within the user's decision timeline.
