Chapter Creates New AFCEA Student Club

In March, Rear Adm. Carlos Rodolfo, PRT N (Ret.), regional vice president of AFCEA International Atlantic Region, and Maj. Gen. Miguel Rosas Leitao, PRT A (Ret.), chapter member, visited the Portuguese Military Academy to motivate military electrical engineering students to create an AFCEA student club.

Adm. Rodolfo talked to about 50 engineering cadets joining the Signal Corp, Material Service Electronic and Signal Gendarmerie (National Republican Guard) in the presence of Col. Henrique Cunha, PRT A, Signal course director at the Portuguese Military Academy, and José Borges, chapter vice president and professor at the Portuguese Military Academy.

During this presentation, Adm. Rodolfo explained the AFCEA organization and objectives, the value of SIGNAL Magazine and the importance of connecting the AFCEA student clubs to the national scientific and technological system through the chapter. He also highlighted the attribution of academic awards to the best students of military schools and universities and presented the student clubs already existing in Portugal. He concluded his conversation with the cadets by stressing the importance of research and development in defense and emerging and disruptive technologies according to NATO Science & Technology Trends 2020-2040.
