Cash Prizes Awarded to Students at Science Fair

The 44th Annual Utica University Regional Science Fair was held in April. Local students competed in the following categories: Physical Science; Natural Science; and Math, Engineering, and Computer Science. AFCEA members Aleksey Panasyuk and Walt Gadz evaluated student science projects for their merit and awarded additional cash awards to encourage students to pursue STEM careers. The winners were:

Senior Level
First Place ($100) - Dennis van Hoesel from Rome Free Academy - "Myco-tecture: Assessing the Strength of Mushroom Bricks"

First Place ($100) - Angelina Le from Proctor High School - "The Effect of the Nonionic Detergent
NP-40 on Pigment Production and Biofilm Development in Pseudomonas Uticensis"

Second Place ($75) - Abdullah Shaik from Rome Free Academy - "When Life Gives You Berries"

Junior Level
First Place ($100) - Trent Jenny from Remsen Central School District - "Noxious Neighbors"

Second Place ($75) - Elizabeth Beck from Poland Central School District - "Expired or Unexpired

Third Place ($100/$50 each) - Aysen Sann & Amier Win from Utica Academy of Science "Squishy Robot Simulator"
