THE HAGUE CHAPTER CHAPTER - Jun 11, 2008

Satellite Communications

On June 11, the chapter held a successful meeting on satellite communications (SatCom) capabilities at the Soesterberg Air Base, Huis ter Hiede. Lt. Col. Klaas Gomes, RNLAF, project manager, MilSatCom, discussed the Netherland's current and upcoming plans for its military SatCom. Lt. Col. Edwin Saiboo, RNLA, head of the Knowledge Center for Command and Control, spoke about SatCom, information distribution and the equipment and systems used by the country's armed forces. Col. Saiboo reflected on his experiences as a G6 in Afghanistan, noting there are few differences in the functionality and operation of military specifications and commercial equipment. Huub Simons, chief, Consultation, Command and Control Agency (NC3A), discussed the capabilities of the NATO space segment and the future of ground segment architecture. After the luncheon, members visited the Network Control Center and viewed SatCom equipment. The meeting concluded with the speakers accepting tokens of appreciation.
