BELGIUM CHAPTER - 12/14/2018
In December 2018, the chapter celebrated its golden anniversary: 50 years of successful events that have always generated collaboration, exchange of interesting and valuable ideas and great satisfaction among the members. Created in November 1968, the chapter was the fourth in Europe. Its main scope then was to bring together government, military, academia and the defense industry. Since 1968, the association continues to grow and mature, encouraging broader participation in and awareness of military and technology realities and developments in the fields of structures and capabilities. It also strives to discover powerful ideas and bring valuable solutions to the defense market. The celebration event was held in a special, warm and festive environment. BELGIUM CHAPTER - 10/18/2018
In October, the Belgium Chapter and The Hague Chapter organized a joint event at the new NATO headquarters (HQ). The purpose of the event was to inform members on the latest communications and information systems (CIS) and cyber developments in NATO as well as offer an opportunity to visit the new facility. Some 60 participants attended the event from both neighbor chapters. Presentations by distinguished and expert speakers from Allied Command Operations (ACO) and NATO HQ addressed topics such as the NATO Command Structure, which requires an adaptation in order to engage successfully with many new challenges such as countering threats from cyberspace. Federated Mission Networking (FMN) was another important topic that was briefed, an initiative that aims to achieve a larger degree of CIS interoperability at the operational and tactical level. BELGIUM CHAPTER - 11/04/2015
More than 20 attendees participated in the chapter's November luncheon at the NATO Staff Centre in Brussels. Guest speakers included Maj. Gen. Ludwig Leinhos, director, NATO Headquarters Consultation, Command and Control (C-3) Staff and C-3 capability area manager and Dr. Velizar Shalamanov, director, Demand Management, NATO Communications and Information Agency (NCIA). Gen. Leinhos gave a briefing on the evolution of NATO C-3 policy based on a new alliance C-3 strategy and a NATO enterprise approach. He discussed how the alliance has evolved over the past three years. He stressed the importance of the Federated Mission Networking as a main strand to promoting interoperability. Dr. Shalamanov complemented the NATO overview with a discussion on NATO's first solution for increased interoperability at an affordable cost, specifying NCIA's role of partnership with industry as a way to move forward.
