EIFEL CHAPTER - 04/27/2016
The Eifel Chapter and Kaiserslautern Chapter visited the Bonn E.V. Chapter's Tech Expo in April. It was a great day to see all the latest technology, network with other AFCEANs and build partnerships with other German chapters.

EIFEL CHAPTER - 12/11/2015
Chief Master Sgt. Brian Smith, USAF, the USAFE mission functional manager for the 3-D field, addresses the chapter at its final quarterly luncheon of 2015 in December. After being re-invigorated in 2015, the Eifel Chapter set the bar high for themselves; there was no better way than to top off their first year with a successful fourth quarter luncheon! Members enjoyed a fantastic Turkish doner meal catered by a local favorite restaurant. Also in attendance were Mr. Alex Hamilton, silver corporate sponsor representative from Global Knowledge; Mr. Tom Brown, an L3 representative, and his guests; and Mr. Albert Hill, the AFCEA Regional Vice President for Europe. The guest speaker was CMSgt Brian Smith, the USAFE Mission Functional Manager (MFM) for 3Ds, who passed along some words of wisdom and gave his perspective on the future of manning across cyber. After hearing about all of the awesome upcoming events and volunteer opportunities from the committee chairs, the chapter topped off the luncheon by presenting SrA Ricardo Hernandez with the SMSgt Marcus Hall STEM Scholarship for Fall 2015. EIFEL CHAPTER - 12/11/2015
Senior Airman Ricardo Hernandez, USAF, is the recipient of the chapter's Fall 2015 Senior Master Sgt. Marcus Hall STEM Scholarship. The chapter is pleased to announce the Fall 2015 winner of the Senior Master Sgt. Marcus Hall STEM Scholarship is Senior Airman Ricardo Hernandez, USAF. Applicants were required to write an essay on the topic of "How can technology increase the quality of life?" and pursuing a degree in information technology (IT) systems or computer science. The chapter is privileged to have the support of Senior Master Sgt. Marcus Hall, USAF (Ret.), who hopes to foster passion about the science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) fields and allow for greater pursuit of academic accomplishment in the field. Hall enlisted in the Air Force in 1992 as a security policeman, but cross-trained into Network Operations and then to Cyber Transport until his retirement. He now works as an IT manager for Amazon, and is taking advantage of his opportunities now to give back to the community that fostered his passion. EIFEL CHAPTER - 10/22/2015
Members of the AFCEA Eifel Chapter enjoyed an insightful presentation from the F5 government team over a lunchtime seminar in October. Pictured (l-r) are: (top row) Staff Sgt. This past October, the chapter hosted a team from F5 at Carahsoft Technology Corp., a provider of IT solutions for the government. Fifty-two attendees were presented with an Air Force-tailored TechTalk entitled SSL Break and Inspect. The F5 team presented with enthusiasm, keeping the talk informative and engaging. Members learned about different SSL and TLS architectures, and Defense Department standards for building SSL/TLS designs to mitigate web-based application attacks. In addition, chapter members were able to earn two continuing education hours for attending. F5 provides excellent support for the government to implement strategies that meet their IT needs, and Eifel members greatly enjoyed the lunchtime presentation and networking.

Chapter President Senior Master Sgt. William Hebb, USAF, and Airman 1st Class Matthew Smith, USAF, vice president for Young AFCEAN affairs, attended the first European Young AFCEAN Conference in October at the Maritim Hotel in Berlin. The team networked with the Kaiserslautern, Bonn and student chapters from Greece, Bulgaria, Romania, the Czech Republic, Italy and Germany. Additionally, the team visited Berlin's historical sites, the German parliament and the German Ministry of Defense.

EIFEL CHAPTER - 07/22/2015
Technology industry representatives and community members interact during the Tech Expo in July at Club Eifel on Spangdahlem Air Base, Germany. In July, the chapter and the 52nd Communications Squadron from Spangdahlem Air Base hosted a Tech Expo with more than 25 exhibitors showcasing the latest in missioncentric technology. This year's event was open to all personnel. Attendees could earn one hour of continuing education credit at a seminar presented by General Dynamics and F5 Networks. More than 280 people attended to share, learn, discuss and network.

the Bonn Tech Expo in May in Bonn, Germany.
The Bonn Tech Expo in May was a great success. Visitors were able to speak with 127 vendors. Technology ranged from civilian to military sectors in a very wide array of capabilities. Static displays were shown as well as functional demonstrations. Members gained knowledge of future concepts as well as current day-to-day cyber operations.

Yara Mitchell, USAF; Staff Sgt. Cory Harley, USAF; and Master Sgt. Greg Bailey, USAF. The chapter, based in Spangdahlem, Germany, relaunched by holding a membership drive in April. Senior Master Sgt. William Hebb, USAF, chapter president, discussed the benefits of being an AFCEA member and provided an update on what the chapter has planned for the coming year. Along with the membership drive, Senior Master Sgt. Rey Schultz, USAF, flight chief, transmissions systems, 1st Combat Communications Squadron, and Senior Airman Brenden Kennedy, USAF, subject matter expert (SME), gave a briefing on the 1st Combat Communications mission and demonstrated a rapidly deployable communications package. The event helped the chapter gain 19 new members.

Capt. Thomas Avilucea (r), USAF, presents recognition plaque to Col. Thomas Brown, USAF, for his January guest presentation. In January Capt. Thomas Avilucea, USAF, led the chapter in welcoming Col. Thomas Brown, USAF, deputy director, communications and information, Headquarters United States Air Forces in Europe. Col. Brown delivered a presentation on the Air Force Smart Operations for the 21st Century (AFSO21) initiative and discussed other techniques for survival under a subtopic titled "Turning Obstacles into Stepping Stones."
