PENSACOLA CHAPTER - 04/20/2022
Capt. Terrence Shashaty, USN, commander, Pensacola Naval Air Station, shares his plans to reopen the base to the general public at the April event. In April, the chapter hosted almost 60 members along with potential new members and special guests from the Naval Air Station and United States Army Recruiting Command (USAREC) at the Pensacola Yacht Club. The keynote guest speakers were Capt. Terrence Shashaty, USN, commander of the Pensacola Naval Air Station (NAS), and Jason Bortz, public affairs officer, NAS. Also in attendance were USAREC staff, 1st Lt. Jason Martin, USA; Sgt. 1st Class Stephen Smith, USA; and 1st Sgt. James Stosh.

Information Systems Technician 1st Class Kyle Gosser, USN, instructor at the Center for Information Dominance Unit Corry Station, mentors a local high school student participating in the inaugural Cyberthon competition held at the National Flight Academy on board Naval Air Station Pensacola during January. The Cyberthon competition is designed to test student teams on their abilities to use the computer skills they learned in their classrooms to defend and defeat cyber attacks on websites. Sailors and other industry professionals mentored local high school students in the inaugural Cyberthon competition in January at the National Flight Academy onboard Naval Air Station Pensacola. Hosted by the chapter, agencies, including the Department of Homeland Security, businesses and organizations joined forces in a competition designed to test the students on their abilities to use computer skills they learned in their classrooms to defend and defeat cyber attacks on websites. Greg Touhill, deputy assistant secretary for Department of Homeland Security Office of Cybersecurity Operations and Programs, said the goal of the competition is to leverage classes in science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) and energize the next generation of information warriors. In October, the chapter along with the AFCEA Educational Foundation awarded a STEM Teaching Tools grant to the National Flight Academy (NFA) at the Fish House. The $2,000 STEM Teaching Tools grant (2012-2013) was awarded to the NFA as a joint effort between the individual chapter and the Educational Foundation to promote effective science teaching and to enhance the abilities of capable teachers in K-12 schools. “We are quite honored that AFCEA has chosen the National Flight Academy as a worthy recipient for a donation to our scholarship fund,” professed Karen Sindel, sales manager, NFA. The NFA can use the grant monies to purchase supplies and/or equipment, or to go toward teacher scholarships that would augment their science and/or information technology activities in their in-residence program located adjacent to the National Naval Aviation Museum aboard Naval Air Station Pensacola, Florida. PENSACOLA CHAPTER - 11/12/2012
Robyn Philips (l), chapter public relations officer, and Dr. Lori Alvin (r), assistant professor, University of West Florida, present the Ralph W. Shrader Diversity Scholarship to Aletheia Lynn Zambesi in November. In November, the chapter recognized Aletheia Lynn Zambesi and bestowed her with the AFCEA Ralph W. Shrader Diversity Scholarship on behalf of the AFCEA Educational Foundation. The Ralph W. Shrader Diversity Scholarship for graduate-level science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) majors was established to provide educational opportunities for talented individuals pursuing advanced study and to acknowledge and honor the unique contributions of Dr. Ralph W. Shrader, president, Worldwide Technology, Booz Allen Hamilton. Shrader champions increased opportunities for women and minorities in the communications and electronics fields. The AFCEA Graduate School scholarships seek to reward excellence for demonstrated effort at the master's level of study, rather than the potential for such excellence.

PENSACOLA CHAPTER - 10/18/2008
The winning team at the October golf tournament and fundraiser is comprised of (l-r) Tim Calhoun, Dave Gonzalez, Tommy Carpenter and Chuck Staton. In October, the chapter hosted its 9th annual scholarship golf tournament, in which 26 teams competed at the Solutia Golf Club in Cantonment, Florida. This year's event generated more than $3,700. Proceeds from the event will be used to provide scholarships to local students from area colleges who are furthering their education in technology, engineering and the sciences. "These funds are committed as part of our ongoing effort to assist students striving for technical degrees," stated Robyn Philips, chapter vice president for awards and education. "On behalf of the scholarship recipients and all our chapter members, please accept a grateful and hearty thank you and well done!" commented Patrick Rooney, chapter president.

PENSACOLA CHAPTER - 10/06/2007
In October the chapter hosted its eighth annual scholarship golf tournament at the Solutia Golf Club, Cantonment, Florida. Chuck Staton, chapter vice president of fund raising,said he was still finalizing income and expenses but estimated that the tournament netted more than $3,500 from this year's event. Proceeds from the golf event will be used to support the chapter's scholarship and awards fund program.

PENSACOLA CHAPTER - 04/04/2007
Bob Pierce, USA (Ret.) (r), chapter vice president for awards and education, recognizes Cadet Jonathan Berg of the University of West Florida, who was selected as an AFCEA Honor Award 2007 recipient. In April the chapter participated in the University of West Florida Army Reserve Officers' Training Corps (ROTC) Awards Ceremony. Bob Pierce, USA (Ret.), chapter vice president of awards and education, worked with Brandi D. Martin of the University of West Florida to select Cadet Jonathan Berg as the recipient of the AFCEA Honor Award. The chapter presented the award in support of the local community providing recognition and sponsorship of scholarships, promoting education to equip members to meet government's challenges and to further careers. Robyn Philips, chapter vice president, stated, "Our Pensacola Chapter feels strongly about the need to continue these types of awards and will participate with their presentations at every opportunity."

Robyn Philips, president of the Blue Angels Pensacola chapter, accepts a commemorative autographed 60th anniversary lithograph from guest speaker MCC (AW/SW) Victor Brabble, Asst. Public Affairs Officer for the U.S. Navy Flight Demonstration Squadron. Special guest speaker MCC (AW/SW) Victor Brabble, assistant public affairs officer for the U.S. Navy Flight Demonstration Squadron, presented a short Blue Angels Flight Demonstration Team (BAFDT) film and oral discussion of the history, operations, and culture of the Blue Angels. He also outlined the Blues' interactions with people all over the country as ambassadors to the U.S. Navy. Chief Brabble also compared the two organizations (BAFDT and AFCEA) as they strive for excellence, additionally noting that both have very service-oriented missions and that both marked their 60th anniversary in 2006.

PENSACOLA CHAPTER - 10/07/2006
The chapter held its seventh annual scholarship golf tournament in October.  Proceeds from the event will be used to support the chapter's scholarship and awards fund.  Players on the University of West Florida (UWF) Team are (l-r) Don Chu, dean, College of Professional Studies; Jane S. Halonen, dean, College of Arts and Social Sciences; Dr. John C. Cavanaugh, UWF president; and David Mann, UWF director of government relations.
The Pensacola Chapter hosted its seventh annual scholarship golf tournament on in October. Proceeds from the event will be used to support the chapter's scholarship and awards fund. Cash donations can be made directly to this fund.
The chapter president, Robyn Philips, highlighted some of the many contributors to the event, including Pete Marshall of Pete Moore, Charles Green of Middle Atlantic Products, Tim Calhoun of Wal-Mart Supercenter, and John H. Childs, Jr. PGA general manager and head golf professional and his staff. Philips also acknowldeged that the chapter is only able to increase the amount of prizes, players, and scholarship funds raised each year because of these and other very generous sponsors.
