TOKYO CHAPTER - 04/27/2018
For the second consecutive year, the chapter sponsored the Kanto Plains Robot Rumble, a March robotics competition among Tokyo-area schools. Winners received scholarships at the April chapter meeting. The Robot Rumble encourages students to work as a team and use programming knowledge to build and operate robots capable of performing simple tasks. Participating schools included Yokota Middle School, St. Maur International School, the British School in Tokyo and K. International School Tokyo. The robots were built from Lego kits and operated by a remote control containing basic instructions programmed by students. Students participated in Tag Battle, where four robots fought to become the last one standing, Save the Universe Relay, where two teams competed to move the most plastic bottles, and the Soccer World Cup. TOKYO CHAPTER - 11/30/2010
In November, Col. Kent Simon, USMC, commander of the Defense Information Systems Agency-Pacific (DISA-Pac), provided an overview of DISA and its projects in the Pacific. Col. Simon has served with the U.S. Marine Corps for 22 years, including tours in the United States, Haiti, the Philippines, Iraq, the Third Marine Expeditionary Force and aboard the USS Essex. He leads 484 military and civilian personnel from Alaska, Hawaii, Guam, Japan, Okinawa and Korea. His team is responsible for communications and information technology support over an area that encompasses nearly 100 million square miles and extends across 17 time zones.

TOKYO CHAPTER - 01/21/2009
The chapter sponsored the third annual TechNet Conference and Exposition in January. The program's theme was "Importance of Government and Industry Cooperation." The event aimed at strengthening the U.S. and Japanese alliance while providing a forum to discuss technologies and to explore interoperability issues that can help streamline critical information sharing. Robert Lentz, Deputy Assistant Secretary of Defense for Information and Identity Assurance, served as a guest speaker. He discussed cyberdefense challenges and U.S. Defense Department initiatives to mitigate cyberattacks. Brig. Gen. Ronald Bouchard, USA, director, Command, Control and Communications Systems/J-6, U.S. Pacific Command (PACOM), shared PACOM strategic goals and how coalition information sharing and information security systems help achieve these goals. TOKYO CHAPTER - 05/01/2008
In May, the chapter awarded $2,000 scholarships to 10 high school seniors from Department of Defense Dependents Schools, including Yokota High School-Yokota Air Base, Camp Zama High School-Camp Zama Army Base, and Yokosuka High School-Yokosuka Naval Base. Capt. Sandra Buckles, USN, chapter president, presented the scholarships. She noted, "We are proud to give back to our community and help the young men and women reach their goals."

TOKYO CHAPTER - 03/19/2008
The chapter was honored in March to have Lt. Gen. Edward A. Rice Jr., USAF, the new commander, U.S. Forces Japan and 5th Air Force, as guest speaker for its monthly dinner meeting. Gen. Rice briefed the audience on strengthening the alliance, the importance of bilateral information sharing, his appreciation of AFCEA and his top priorities since assuming command in February. He emphasized the strategic importance of the U.S.-Japanese alliance, stating that the Pacific region is probably one of the most important areas to be cognizant of in the 21st century, especially with regard to the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan. He stressed the importance of operational readiness, as well as the huge challenge facing the information technology community as it battles the war in cyberspace.

TOKYO CHAPTER - 01/18/2007
The first Tokyo TechNet 2007 Conference and Exposition was held January 18-19 under the theme of "Allied Interoperability: Leveraging a Long Term Relationship to Make Split-Second Decisions." The event aimed to strengthen the US-Japan alliance and discuss information technology (IT) solutions, policies and ideas as day-to-day operational realities.
The forum presented an opportunity for government, military and industry professionals to partner in facing challenges in accommodating US and Japanese warfighters' abilities to make critical decisions. Attendees were able to come together to interact and network, and also to advertise products and services, display new technologies, and take part in briefings and panel discussions featuring high-ranking officials.
