SOUTH CENTRAL PENNSYLVANIA CHAPTER - 08/18/2016
Attending the chapter's 6th annual golf tournament in conjunction with the local Defense Information Systems Agency (DISA) community in August are (l-r) Ron Kern, Karen Kern, Travis Kern and Ed Miller. In August, the chapter held its 6th annual golf tournament in conjunction with the local Defense Information Systems Agency (DISA) community. This year's tournament raised over $3,000 towards annual science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) scholarship awards. These awards are given to local high school seniors majoring in STEM heading into their college education. Many DISA associates golfed side-by-side with industry partners to make this event a success. Next year’s tournament will be held on August 11, 2017.

The chapter held its fourth Annual Golf Tournament in coordination with the local Defense Information Systems Agency (DISA) community in September. A total of 23 teams participated. The day consisted of golf, a firetruck ladder golf ball drop, flight awards, incredible prizes, networking and tons of fun. The chapter raised more than $7,500, an increase of more than 113 percent from last year, to go toward scholarships for students involved in science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) programs.

The day consisted of golf, a fire truck ladder golf ball drop, flight awards, incredible prizes, networking and tons of fun. The chapter raised more than $7,500, an increase of more than 113 percent from last year, to go toward scholarships for students involved in science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) programs. SOUTH CENTRAL PENNSYLVANIA CHAPTER - 11/07/2013
David DeVries, deputy Defense Department chief information officer for information enterprise, talks about managing information in a contested environment at the chapter's November luncheon. The chapter held a monthly luncheon in November with guest speaker David DeVries, deputy Defense Department chief information officer (DOD CIO) for information enterprise. DeVries is a senior executive with broad experience in information technology, information management and command and control systems. He retired from the U.S. Army after serving more than 29 years with a variety of leadership and staff officer experience in operational assignments involving command and control communications as well as information management and technology. He finished his military career leading the creation of enterprise information sharing and information technology capabilities to the Army leadership and major commands throughout the United States. Defense Information Systems Agency (DISA) team members at the October golf tournament are (l-r) Jim Boynton, Devin Rickabaugh and Colby Rickabaugh. The chapter held its third annual golf tournament in coordination with the local Defense Information Systems Agency (DISA) government in October. Although the original date was rained out, the event was still a success. A total of 19 teams participated. The day consisted of golf, a ladder truck ticket drop, awards, networking and fun. The chapter raised more than $3,500 to go toward scholarships for students involved in science, technology, engineering and mathematics programs.

The chapter made a donation to its scholarship fund on behalf on Col. Grindle in appreciation of his time.

David Hoon, Defense Information Systems Agency Program Executive Office – Mission Assurance, Secure Configuration Management (SCM) Program Management Office, spoke to the group in September on “Enclave Security, Secure Configuration Management.” The SCM Program is the integration and optimization of enterprise information assurance applications, tools and data standards to support automated processes used to support risk management and near real-time awareness. SCM will enable information system monitoring as part of the Defense Department's Continuous Monitoring Strategy supporting the initial data sets of assets, system configurations and vulnerabilities.

SOUTH CENTRAL PENNSYLVANIA CHAPTER - 03/09/2012
Joining together at the March meeting are (l-r) Patrick O'Brien, chapter treasurer; Pam Plesz, chapter secretary; Brig. Gen. Frederick A. Henry, USA, deputy commanding general, U.S. Army Network Enterprise Technology Command; and John Snider, chapter president. The chapter hosted Brig. Gen. Frederick A. Henry, USA, deputy commanding general, U.S. Army Network Enterprise Technology Command (NETCOM), as the speaker for the March luncheon. During his presentation, the general discussed the Army Baseline Information Technology Services (ABITS), a new information technology service management strategy for the Army. Enabled by the global network, ABITS will balance operational requirements against performance and cost. ABITS will establish clear performance standards and more suitable metrics to gauge user satisfaction. In fiscal year 2012, a pilot will be executed for baseline service delivery at select locations in each Signal Command theater. NECs will provide ABITS-like capabilities to selected tenants during the pilot and monitor and refine key performance data. NETCOM will then continue to mature capabilities across select Army posts, camps and stations.

SOUTH CENTRAL PENNSYLVANIA CHAPTER - 03/16/2012
More than 40 industry and government bowlers join together in March to raise scholarship funds for the chapter, including Bill McKnight (c), U.S. Naval Supply Systems Command Business Systems Center, Mechanicsburg Naval Support Activity, who bowled a perfect score. In March, the chapter hosted its first annual bowling tournament in Mechanicsburg, Pennsylvania, to raise funds for scholarships. The event drew more than 40 industry and government bowlers from the region with some traveling from the Washington, D.C., area. Bowlers of all skill levels battled it out across the lanes through three intense games. The highlight of the afternoon came when Bill McKnight, U.S. Naval Supply Systems Command Business Systems Center, Mechanicsburg Naval Support Activity, successfully bowled his first-ever perfect score. Tapestry Technologies sponsored the event, which ABC West Lanes hosted. The proceeds will help support both future chapter events and the chapter's Scholarship Foundation established to benefit students involved in the science, technology, engineering and mathematics program.

SOUTH CENTRAL PENNSYLVANIA CHAPTER - 11/29/2011
Maj. Gen. Steven Smith, USA (l), director for the U.S. Army Chief Information Office/G-6 Cyber Directorate, joins John Snider, chapter president, at the November luncheon. The chapter recently hosted Maj. Gen. Steven Smith, USA, director for the U.S. Army Chief Information Office/G-6 Cyber Directorate, as the speaker for its November luncheon. Gen. Smith is responsible for the development, implementation and execution of the Army's cyberspace strategy and cyber-related information technology systems and subsystems. During his presentation, the general discussed the issues the Army faces as a result of stove-piped information technology enclaves that lead to multiple help desks that cannot communicate, resulting in implementation of nonstandard network tools and duplication of efforts. Gen. Smith explained that industry can help the Army solve these problems through innovation and providing open standards as the Army moves to a single, standards-based network that will save money and increase capability. Following the presentation, he answered several questions from the audience regarding the future of the Army's cyber strategy.

SOUTH CENTRAL PENNSYLVANIA CHAPTER - 10/14/2011
Former directors of the Defense Information Systems Agency's field security operations together at the October meeting are (l-r) Dave Hughes, Bill Keely, Mark Orndorff and Jack Williams. In October, the newly formed chapter held its inaugural speaker luncheon at the U.S. Army Heritage and Education Center in Carlisle Pennsylvania. The chapter hosted Mark Orndorff, director, Program Executive Office for Information Assurance and NetOps, Defense Information Systems Agency (DISA). Orndorff—native to the South Central Pennsylvania area—spoke on the information assurance future within DISA and focused on the important collaboration opportunities within the local cyber community. During the luncheon, Bill Keely, director of field security operations (FSOs), DISA, presented coins to the former FSO's present at the luncheon. Jack Williams was the first FSO director, followed by Dave Hughes, Orndorff and the present director, Keely.

SOUTH CENTRAL PENNSYLVANIA CHAPTER - 09/16/2011
In September, the chapter held its inaugural 18-hole Captain's Choice Scramble Golf Tournament. The event drew 84 attendees comprising government, military and industry partners from the region. The proceeds raised at the luncheon will benefit the chapter's fund to assist students within the chapter to pursue educational opportunities in the fields of engineering, technology, and computer science.
