Audience members enjoy an overview of the topic during the May event in Rome. In May, the chapter, in collaboration with Ansys, organized the conference titled 'Present and Future of Space: Modeling and Simulation of Space Missions.'

The event aimed to showcase modeling and simulation technologies applied to space missions. The conference was introduced by Lt. Gen. Antonio Tangorra, ITAF (Ret.), chapter president, and moderated by Col. Francesco Marradi, ITAF (Ret.), who highlighted the strategic value of numerical simulations.

In April, the chapter held an annual conference in Rome at the Casa dell'Aviatore, entitled Defending Against Fake News, Digital Interceptions and Information Manipulation: the Role of AI. The event explored the link between disinformation, hybrid threats and the use of artificial intelligence (AI) as a strategic tool for cybersecurity and cognitive defense.

Lt. Gen. Antonio Tangorra opened the meeting, emphasizing the urgency of addressing disinformation and digital manipulation, increasingly relevant threats to national security and the resilience of democratic societies.

Chiara Camerani, CEPIC, highlighted how disinformation thrives on infodemia, functional illiteracy and cognitive bias. Social media and algorithms reinforce these dynamics, fostering polarization and the propagation of conspiracy, which can lead to violent extremism.

In December, chapter members and guests enjoy a meal together to celebrate the year's end. In December, the chapter held the traditional dinner to celebrate the end of the year.
Lt. Gen. Antonio Tangorra, ITAF (Ret.), chapter president, invited all members of the chapter's social bodies and many distinguished guests. During the dinner, Tangorra recalled the chapter's main activities, thanked those who supported the chapter and wished the guests all the best for Christmas and New Year.

In November, the chapter organized the 'Disruptive Technologies Enabling Defence and Security' conference to explore the role of disruptive technologies in defense and security, involving institutional, academic and industrial experts.

Lt. Gen. Antonio Tangorra, ITAF (Ret.), chapter president, opened the day by emphasizing the importance of emerging technologies.

In his speech 'Disruptive Technologies and Strategic Autonomy: Challenges and Opportunities of the Next European Commission,' Vittorio Calaprice outlined the European Union's priorities to address economic and geopolitical challenges, focusing on innovation and resilience. In the context of digital transformation, the cloud is confirming itself as an important growth trend with innovative services such as SASE (Secure Access Service Edge), which combines advanced data transport technologies (SD-WAN) with advanced SSE (Security Service Edge) security services such as: Zero Trust Network Access, Next-Generation Firewall, Secure Web Gateway, Cloud Access Security Broker. The event "Digital Transformation and Resilience: Experiences and Solutions" organized by the chapter in collaboration with corporate member DigitalPlatforms (DP), was held in September at the Casa dell'Aviatore in Rome.

Chapter President Lt. Gen. Antonio Tangorra, ITAF (Ret.), opens the July conference. In July, the chapter organized the conference "Resilience: Operational Solutions To Support Data and Communications Management." The conference topics presented an overview of the challenges of new cyber threats supported by artificial intelligence technology and outlined strategies to strengthen the digital resilience of networks and data management assets against such threats.

After a welcome by Lt. Gen. Antonio Tangorra, ITAF (Ret.), chapter president, Brig. Gen. Davide Pilatti, commander of the Italian Army Transmission Department, underlined the strong relationship that has bound the chapter to the Transmission Command for years. In April, the chapter holds an event at the Casa dell'Aviatore, IAF Officer Club, in Rome. The chapter, along with corporate member Pure Storage, organized the event "From Business Continuity to Disaster Recovery to Cyber Resiliency," which was held in April at the Casa dell'Aviatore, IAF Officer Club.

The workshop was opened by Lt. Gen. Antonio Tangorra, ITAF (Ret.), chapter president. Gen. Tangorra later introduced Lt. Col. Gianluigi Me of the Carabinieri, who spoke about the types of cyber threats each organization should defend against by describing best practices for securing their data proactively rather than reactively.

Mariella Battagliere, ASI, discusses small satellites and applications during the May conference. In May, at the headquarters of the Italian Space Agency (ASI), the chapter organized the conference "Constellations of Small Satellites and Its Applications" with the aim of providing an overview of the studies and initiatives underway at the national level. The chapter collaborated with defense, ASI and various industrial and academic entities.

Small satellites are playing an increasing role, complementing high-performance satellites, rapidly transforming the space sector: just think of the development of the ambitious IRIDE program, scheduled for completion in 2026, carried out by the Italian government under the management of ESA and with the support of ASI. This project will make it possible to develop an innovative constellation, complementing national and European assets already in orbit, to serve public administrations in multiple areas, such as hydrogeological instability and infrastructure monitoring.

Chapter President Lt. Gen. Antonio Tangorra, ITAF (Ret.), speaks to attendees at the November event. In November, the chapter held its traditional year-end dinner at "Le Roof Restaurant" of the Radisson Hotel in Rome. The executive board, Technical Committee members and the Probiviri gathered with many high-level representatives from military, industry and academic institutions to increase mutual familiarity and share information on the activities of the chapter. At the end of the dinner, after greeting and thanking all present, Chapter President Lt. Gen. Antonio Tangorra, ITAF (Ret.), summarized the main activities of 2023 and the goals achieved. After the problems of the pandemic, activities resumed in full swing with all events attended in person, garnering brilliant feedback regarding the quality of the speeches and the number of participants. In November of 2023, the year that marked the 100th anniversary of the founding of the Italian Air Force (IAF), the chapter organized, under the patronage of the IAF, the conference "Surveillance and Airspace Defense in Italy: the Air Force at the Service of National Security" at the Urbe Airport in Rome.

The event made it possible to highlight the organizational, operational and technological aspects of Italy's surveillance and air defense system, emphasizing the expertise and cutting-edge technology that characterize the Air Force.

In October, the chapter co-hosts an event with Vates Italia to discuss private cloud and open-source virtualization.  In October, with the collaboration of Vates Italia, the chapter organized an event titled, "Private Cloud and Open Source Virtualization: The New Scenarios.' Vates has long-term experience in the development of sustainable open-source virtualization systems, the data centre operating system, for public administrations and private companies in terms of cost and energy.

After a welcome address by Gen. Antonio Tangorra, ITAF (Ret.), chapter president, Leandro Aglieri, president and CEO of Vates Italia, illustrated the company strategy and the related customers in his speech titled "Open Source Virtualization." In September, the chapter hosts Sustainability in Space. The event was held in Rome at the Università Tor Vergata. In September, the chapter's Women in AFCEA organized an event: Sustainability in Space: a New Frontier. The event was held in Rome, at the Università Tor Vergata, to debate the different aspects of sustainability, such as space situation awareness, among female professionals and scientists in the space sector. They also considered inclusion as a part of sustainability in a sector where the presence of women in STEM is increasing.

After a welcome address by Fiorella Lamberti, Leonardo, Loredana Santo, chapter women outreach leader and Space Sustainability Centre coordinator, Università di Roma Tor Vergata, introduced the research center, which was established in 2021 to perform interdisciplinary space sustainability activities.

In March, members attend discussions on data protection against cyber threats. The chapter organized the event in conjunction with Veeam Software. In March, the chapter organized the event 'Veeam: A Journey From Traditional ‘Restore' to Complete ‘Recovery' Against Cyber Threats" in collaboration with the company Veeam Software. In January, the chapter hosts an event discussing Vaisala's technologies for mission critical meteorological measurement. The event "Innovation and Vaisala Technologies for ‘Mission Critical' Meteorological Measurements" was held in Rome in January. It was organized by the chapter in cooperation with Vaisala Oyj and the support of its representative Eurelettronica ICAS, both members of AFCEA.

The workshop aimed to present innovative measurement technologies designed to improve reliability and ensure safe and efficient operations. Lt. Gen. In December, the chapter hosts an event to discuss applications of digital twin. In December, the chapter organized an event in Rome titled, "Digital Twin: a New Ecosystem Defence," hosted by the Transmission School of the Italian Army. The continuous interest in new technologies drove the chapter to dedicate the last event in 2022 to the digital twin topic, providing an overview of its main features and applications.

Lt. Gen. Antonio Tangorra, chapter president, and Brig. Gen. Davide Pilatti, Italian Army, chief of the Transmission Command, welcomed all participants with an introductory address.

Gen. Danilo Morando, deputy chief of the 2nd Department of General Staff, hold a panel discussion during the June chapter-organized conference on Earth Observation. In June, the chapter organized a conference titled "Earth Observation: Solutions for the Technological Growth and Economic Recovery of the Country," held at ESA-ESRIN European Space Agency in Frascati. The conference focused on new technologies and solutions in the field of Earth observation. The first part of the event hosted a round table attended by distinguished guests, representatives of the main stakeholders in the field, who discussed state-of-the-art methods and perspectives of Earth observation. In May, the final examination session of the second-level master's degree program in "International Space Engineering and Law in Satellite Communication, Navigation and Sensing Systems," 2020/2021 edition, organized by the University of Rome, Tor Vergata, was held. The event was chaired by Ernestina Cianca, professor and member of the Technical Scientific Committee of AFCEA Rome Chapter.

In December, chapter members enjoy a panoramic view of Rome at the year-end dinner. In December, the chapter held its traditional end-of-the-year dinner in the restaurant on the roof of Hotel Bernini Bristol with an awesome view of the center of Rome. In October, the chapter organized the seminar "5G Ecosystem and Cyber Security in Civil and Military Contexts." It was the first event in person since February 2020, when the pandemic started.

Interesting and innovative topics related to 5G technology were discussed. The increase of Internet of Things (IoT) devices in communication networks and critical infrastructures has increased the risk of cyber attacks of various kinds. Therefore, the seminar was an opportunity to provide a broad overview of the topic, in both civilian and military contexts, in an integrated cybersecurity scenario with new authentication and encryption techniques.
